Ken is a licensed architect in Maryland, and a design educator at the University of Maryland. Currently he is the interim assistant director of undergraduate architecture for the 2023-2024 academic year.
In addition to teaching foundational design studios, he teaches courses related to visual representation and architectural drawing, including a new elective: Design Drawing: Explorations in Mixed-Media. He continues to experiment with visual communication strategies that promote the intersection of manual and digital drawing techniques in both practice and academia. Ken teaches across the UMD Architecture curriculum from ARCH150 Discovering Architecture to ARCH799 Thesis in Architecture.
In practice, Ken has recently focused on crafting residential architecture that integrates sustainable, site-specific strategies at a human scale at Gardner Architects. Prior to this, Ken spent five years designing affordable housing for urban communities in the DC area at Soto, including the first affordable assisted living in southeast DC.
Prior to the University of Maryland, Ken instructed design studios in The George Washington University’s Interior Architecture program, as well as a community analysis seminar at the University of the District of Columbia. He holds a Master of Architecture & Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland.
Ken resides in Frederick, Maryland and is an active member of the downtown Frederick community.
